Laparoscopic Silastic Ring Gastric Bypass

This procedure is reserved for patients that are 200 pounds above their ideal body weight. The procedure is the same for Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y with one modification: a silastic ring is placed around the pouch just above the anastomosis, or connection between the gastric pouch and bypassed intestine. This creates additional restriction for patients, and many surgeons believe that the ring helps avoid weight regain in the distant future.
